Untitled Lava World
by Yager855Lava World
Magnetic FieldExtreme Activity
Why is this a Lava World?Runaway tidal heating from its moons keeps the surface molten - the planet is kneaded like Io, only far harder.
Resonant, close-in moons pump orbital eccentricity, and the resulting tidal flexing dissipates enormous heat in the interior. Past a threshold the crust cannot cool: volcanism resurfaces the world continuously.
Classification Criteria:
✓ Close-in moons in a resonant configuration✓ Tidal heat flux beyond the runaway threshold- Orbit itself was fine: 9.50 AU, 72K equilibrium
Habitability ScoreUninhabitable
Contributing Factors
water60
Water present but mostly frozen
geology40
Extreme volcanic activity may be hazardous
rotation10
Near tidally locked - one hemisphere perpetually scorched, other frozen, narrow habitable twilight zone only
Organic Chemistry80
Core organic elements (CHNO) present
atmosphere16
Atmosphere present but composition not ideal for life (partially stripped by slow rotation)
temperature0
Frozen world - minimal potential for complex life (large moon stabilizes the axial tilt - steady seasons) (runaway tidal heating keeps the surface molten regardless of orbit)
magnetic Field100
Magnetic field provides radiation protection (a large close moon may help stir the core dynamo (speculative))

Surface Characteristics
Runaway tidal heating keeps the surface molten - volcanic activity everywhereMoons
Moon 1rings0.010% - 1.6 radii
Inside the Roche limit (1.79 planet radii): torn apart into a ring system.
Moon 2receding0.024% - 20.0 radii
Outside the synchronous orbit: slowly receding, like Luna (~cm per year).
Tidal braking locked the planet to its moon: one face forever moonward.
Moon 3stable0.010% - 8.7 radii
Small and distant: a quiet, stable companion.
Moon 4merged10% - 20.3 radii
Merged with an adjacent moon: too close for both to hold a stable orbit.
