Terms of Service

By using TerraForge, you agree to these terms. They're written in plain language on purpose — read the whole thing, it's short.

What TerraForge is

TerraForge is a browser-based tool for designing simulated planets and star systems, and a reference for real, confirmed exoplanets from NASA's Exoplanet Archive. It's free to use. An account is optional, and only needed to save your own worlds or like other people's.

Your account

You're responsible for what happens under your account. Don't share it, and tell us if you think someone else has access to it. We can suspend or close an account that violates these terms — see "Acceptable use" below.

Planets and systems you create

You own what you build.Saving a planet or system doesn't transfer ownership of your creation to us. What it does do: it grants us a license to store it, display it on the site, and show it to other visitors (in the gallery, on a shared link, in search results) — because that's the whole point of saving one. If you delete a saved world, we remove it from the site; it may persist briefly in backups.A planet or system's name and any description you write are your own words. Keep them civil — see "Acceptable use."

Acceptable use

Don't use TerraForge to post anything illegal, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, or otherwise abusive — in a planet's name, its description, or in feedback you send us. Don't attempt to disrupt the site (scraping at abusive volume, attacking the builder or its APIs, bypassing rate limits or bot protection), and don't try to access another user's account or data. We can remove content or suspend access for violating this, without notice, at our discretion.

The simulation isn't a scientific instrument

TerraForge models planetary composition, classification, and habitability using real physical relationships, simplified to run instantly in a browser. It is an educational and creative tool, not a peer-reviewed scientific instrument — don't rely on it for anything where the accuracy of a specific number matters. Where our model and a real exoplanet's own published measurements disagree, we say so on that planet's page rather than picking one silently.

Advertising

TerraForge is supported in part by advertising served through Google AdSense, which may use cookies to personalize ads — see our Privacy Policy for what that means for your data.

No warranty

TerraForge is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind. We don't guarantee it will be available, error-free, or that a saved world will exist forever — back up anything that matters to you by keeping its share link. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for damages arising from your use of the site.

Changes

We may update these terms as the site changes. Continuing to use TerraForge after an update means you accept the new terms. We'll update the date below when that happens.

The TerraForge exoplanet catalog: 5,572 real exoplanets run through the simulation, with a search field and rendered worlds grouped by type

New: The Exoplanet Catalog 🔭

Every confirmed planet NASA has measured well enough to build — 5,572 of them — is now in here, and none of them arrived with a label. Their real mass, radius, orbit and star go through the same simulation that runs everything you make, and it decides what each one is: gas giant, lava world, ocean, ice. Sixteen come out Earth-like. Find TRAPPIST-1e, stand on its surface, and see what a red dwarf's light actually looks like from the ground.
